This week has been an exciting milestone in our Primary School as children took part in Transition Morning and had the opportunity to meet their new teacher, spend time in their new classroom, and get to know some of the classmates they will be learning alongside next academic year. For many children, this is a moment filled with excitement and anticipation. They eagerly look forward to the opportunities that come with moving into a new year group, meeting new friends, and working with a new teacher. For others, however, change can feel a little more challenging. Some children may feel nervous, uncertain, or even disappointed if they are not in the class they had hoped for or if they have been separated from friends. These feelings are completely normal. At BSKL, we place a great deal of importance on supporting children through periods of transition. Our staff spend many hours carefully creating balanced classes, considering a wide range of factors including friendships, learning needs, personalities, academic profiles, language needs, and the overall dynamics of each class. Our goal is always to create learning environments where every child can thrive. Throughout the transition process, we encourage children to focus on what they are gaining rather than what they may perceive they are losing. We remind them that every new class brings opportunities to make new friendships, develop independence, and learn from different experiences. Many children who are initially anxious about transition quickly discover that they enjoy their new class and form friendships they may never have developed otherwise. Our wonderful Year 6 students have also been experiencing their own transition this week. After completely blowing us away with their outstanding performances in Oliver!, they spent two days in Secondary School, experiencing lessons, meeting teachers and getting a taste of what lies ahead. Watching them move seamlessly from delivering a production of such a high standard to embracing the challenges and opportunities of Secondary School has been a wonderful reminder of how much they have grown during their time in Primary. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them. As a school, we support children through transition by: Providing opportunities to meet their new teacher before the summer break. Allowing children to spend time in their new classroom environment. Sharing information carefully between current and future teachers. Encouraging open conversations about feelings and worries. Focusing on positive opportunities and new experiences. Maintaining familiar routines and expectations wherever possible. There are also several things that parents can do at home to support a successful transition: Listen carefully to any concerns your child may have and acknowledge their feelings. Speak positively about the upcoming school year and the opportunities it will bring. Avoid comparing classes or teachers. Encourage your child to talk about what they are looking forward to. Remind them of previous transitions that have gone well. Encourage flexibility and resilience when meeting new classmates and teachers. One of the most important messages we can give our children is that growth often happens when we step outside our comfort zone. New experiences, new friendships and new challenges help children develop confidence, independence and resilience, qualities that will serve them well throughout their lives. Over the coming weeks, children will continue to prepare for the next stage of their learning journey. As a school, we will continue to support them through this process and help them look forward with confidence and excitement. Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. Have a wonderful weekend,
