Frequently asked questions

  • How do I apply to BSY?

The BSY admissions process is personalised to your family's needs, and your child can join us at any time during the academic year.

    • Start your journey to BSY by filling in our online enquiry form.
    • We’d love to show you around our campus, where you’ll explore our facilities and classrooms, talk to our teachers, and get a feel for happy community. If you can’t make it to Yangon, we’ll happily arrange a virtual tour.
    • As well as filling in our online application form, you’ll also need to send us some supporting documents.
    • After receiving your form and documents, we’ll invite your child to an assessment. We’ll also meet with you to learn more about your child’s needs.
    • If our school is a great fit for your family, we’ll formally offer your child a place. You’ll then need to sign an enrolment agreement and pay a fee to secure your place.
  • How long should I expect the full admissions process to take?

From the moment you first get in touch with BSY to the point we offer your child a place, our admissions process should take no more than a few days.

Our goal is to make joining our school as easy as possible. We'll take the time to welcome your family into our community and provide all the information you need.

  • How will you ensure my child settles in quickly?

We’ll welcome your child with open arms. Our classrooms are inspiring, dynamic, and safe spaces, which encourage our learners to explore, imagine, discover, and create.

From day one, we make sure new students have everything they need to thrive, from the right books to a friendly buddy, who will show them around and introduce them to their classmates. Our teachers also dedicate time to really get to know each child. We encourage parents to let our teachers and teaching assistants know what their child enjoys, too, so they can immediately build a connection.

  • What do your tuition fees include?

The school fees you’ll pay reflect our holistic approach to education.

Your child will enjoy one-of-a-kind learning experiences that encourage growth and exploration, and broaden their unique understanding of the world. We’ll inspire them to be curious and courageous in everything they do, too, while nurturing their confidence, resilience, and creativity. And thanks to our outstanding teachers and facilities – complemented by unique global collaborations through the Nord Anglia family – BSY ignites all kinds of possibilities for the future.

  • What is the purpose of the application fee?
The application fee covers the administrative cost of our teachers' assessment with your child. It's also a demonstration of your commitment to sending your child to BSY.
  • How does the process differ if my company is paying the tuition fees?
We aim to make the BSY school fee payment process as straightforward as possible. Our admissions team will work with you on your child's application, while our finance team will liaise with your employer. This will allow you to concentrate on your child’s education and wellbeing.
  • What curriculum do you teach?

Our children learn through the globally recognised English National Curriculum. This culminates in prestigious IGCSE and international A-level courses at Secondary.

    • Early Years (ages 2-5): Early Years Foundation Stage.
    • Primary (ages 5-11): English National Curriculum.
    • Secondary (ages 11-16): English National Curriculum, including IGCSEs.
    • Sixth Form (ages 16-18): A-levels.

  • Do you support children with Special Education Needs (SEN)?
BSY is proud to be an inclusive school. We assess each child before they start with us to ensure we can best support their needs. And if we feel your child requires additional one-to-one support, we’ll discuss this with you.
  • What languages do you teach?
All lessons and activities at our school are taught in English. Our students also learn Spanish or Mandarin to enhance their language skills. They can choose to learn Burmese language, too.
  • What qualifications do your teachers have?
All our teachers have a UK degree and teaching qualification (or the equivalent).
  • Do you have teaching assistants?
Yes, from Nursery through to Primary, our classrooms have additional teaching support to ensure each child is cared for, happy, and engaged.
  • What after-school activities can my child take part in?
Our students enjoy after-school activities (ASAs) until 4pm daily. Our teachers lead most ASAs, although some are delivered by external providers (and may have an additional cost).

ASAs change each term to ensure variety, although our students’ favourite activities typically run throughout the year.
  • What trips and excursions do you offer your students?
Trips and visits provide exciting opportunities to learn beyond the classroom at The British School Yangon.

In Primary, our students go on fun, eye-opening residential trips with their year groups. These build independence, maturity, and confidence.

In Secondary, students enjoy residential trips that connect closely with their curriculum – bringing learning to life in the world.
  • What sports do you offer?
Our sports programme includes a wide range of activities. Students can choose from football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, rugby, table tennis, rock climbing, and more – all supported and enhanced by our state-of-the-art facilities.

Your child will also benefit from weekly physical education lessons, as well as activities at break and lunch times. Our young athletes represent BSY at competitions in Yangon, regionally, and beyond, too.
  • Where do your students go after they complete their education at BSY?

At BSY, we share Nord Anglia’s commitment to academic excellence – and to creating outstanding futures for our students.

We make sure every child enjoys a personalised education that nurtures the development of knowledge, skills, and transferable qualities. Our goal is to help each learner gain a place - and thrive - at the college or university of their dreams.

  • How do you ensure good behaviour and manners?
We have a Code of Conduct that nurtures a warm, vibrant atmosphere. Our teachers and staff help students to develop positive behaviours by encouraging self-discipline, responsibility, and a respect for others.

We look after our students closely, uphold high standards, and set realistic expectations that are clear and consistent. We encourage students to embody our values, too – in the corridor, the classroom, and beyond.
  • Where can I find the school's term dates?
You can find term and holiday dates on our school calendar.
  • Do you provide lunch?
Yes, all our students enjoy a healthy, nutritious lunch. We prepare well-balanced meals with carbohydrates, proteins, and vegetables. Our teachers sit with students over lunch to help them practice good table manners.
  • Where do your families live? And do you run a school bus service?

BSY's families live across Yangon, from Downtown (in the south of the city) to Mingaladon Township (in the north).

Our school buses cover most areas, depending on student numbers and the popularity of routes. Buses are an additional service that are not included in our school fees.

  • How can parents get involved at BSY?

Families can get involved in life at our school through coffee mornings, information evenings, community events, and Principal Q&A sessions.

    Other opportunities for parents include:

    • In EYFS and primary, parent class representatives help out by sharing information with other families.
    • In secondary school, parents help to deliver our PSHE curriculum and assessment workshops.
    • Through our Parent Teacher Group (PTG), parents work together to organise fundraising and community events.
  • How do you communicate with parents and guardians?

We value strong parent-school relationships, as this helps us to create the best possible learning experience for your child.

We use clear communication channels that vary according to the information we want to share with you. For example, our teachers provide regular updates through a ‘student diary’, emails, telephone calls, formal/informal meetings, and/or a parent blog.

Throughout the academic year, we also host regular coffee mornings and parent-teacher consultations, and provide formal reports on your child’s progress.

  • How old is The British School Yangon?
Our purpose-built school was founded in 2014, and joined the Nord Anglia Education family in 2017.
