Full event review NAE SEA Primary Games Cambodia 2018

Day 1 - 

The first day of sport and what a day it was!

Unfortunately no silverware was won but a lot pride and commitment was clearly shown.

The girls fielding 8 players against a suggested 12 was always going to be a tough ask.  That said they batted amazingly to narrowly lose two games by just one run and then a further depleted team in the play off game meant that we came 7^th.  That said, all the girls improved from the first game and learnt much about the game and, more importantly, themselves.  

The boys won two games and ended up tied 5^thplace against Regents Pattaya.  A very respected and established school in terms of sport in South East Asia.  A fantastic day of basketball saw the boys mature and learn in every game developing into a formidable team.  The defence was like a solid wall and on another day, with a bit more luck, the ball would have dropped in the hoop some more and would have resulted in very different score lines.

We are exceptionally proud of the students efforts and are looking forward to tomorrows tee ball and basketball competitions.  

Thank you for all the emails that I have received wishing us well and also the parents who are here supporting and experiencing the same emotions as the students and staff!

Day 2 -

Another amazing day of sport and the students have made the staff so proud!  

The girls basketball team lost their first games but then won their next two games against NISC and BVIS.  However due to a point differential they were harshly eliminated into the 5th 6th place play off that they won comfortably.  That slightly overshadows the days play with perhaps the most exciting game of the day - when 2 - 0 down with 38 seconds to play, Mia cooly slots home a basket to take it to overtime and then scored again to beat the eventual runners up.  It was a hard pill to swallow but shows how good our girls were against much bigger opposition and on another day would surely have resulted in a top 3 trophy!

The boys made it just as exciting. Losing their first games but winning the next two - be it very very tightly - meant we were in the semi finals.  A very strong St Andrews team produced some amazing base running and fielding to win that game.  The 3rd place game went to the wire... literally - the last ball of the game BSY needed to avoid a home run!  They did it and have walked away with 3rd place in the boys tee ball

The three objectives prior to the trip were

1. Have fun.

2. Learn from the experience.

3. Win a trophy

Having spoken to the children I certainly think we have achieved all 3 objectives and the students are keen to get back to BSY practice some more and come back even stronger next year.

It has certainly been evident for the staff how much progress in term of physical development as well as maturity has been achieved.
