Hello CDS Families,
Happy November! This month marks the time of year where we are all focused on showing gratitude and appreciation for all the amazing things that have positively affected our lives. I’d like to encourage everyone to practice gratitude throughout the year. The science of gratitude or practice of being grateful has been proven to have lasting and meaningful effects on both physical and emotional health. I recently read an article on the science of gratitude by Robert Emmons, a professor of psychology at the University of California, and he looks at gratitude as how it helps people realize that they wouldn’t be where they are without the help of others.
After just over 4 months as the general director here at CDS, I can affirm that this definition of gratitude fits my circumstance completely. I would not be where I am today without the help of many different people. First and foremost, my family, who have supported me at every moment in my journey as an educator, the CDS staff who have given their all in everything I have asked of them, and they have done it with grace and professionalism, and the CDS community of parents, who have challenged me to be better in every aspect of my job so that we create the best experience for our children. Thank you to all of you for helping me be where I am today. This is a dream come true for my family and I and I am grateful for every moment here at CDS.
Gratitude is a powerful tool to help us put things in perspective and recognize those around us. As a community, let's practice gratitude; I challenge every one of you to recognize someone who has helped you get to where you are in life today. Let them know what they have done and the amazing effect they have had on you. I guarantee it will make both of you feel amazing.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Highest Regards,
Jack Young
General Director
