Our 2023-2024 Cultural Season of music and theatre performances is off to a great start. On November 10th, we enjoyed a fantastic concert of baroque music given by Swedish clarinetist Martin Fröst and German ensemble Concerto Köln. What’s more, our 8th and 9th graders had the privilege of learning directly from these virtuosos in special music workshops.
Over two days, our guest musicians inspired our students to explore how music can be used as a powerful medium to convey deep emotions and tell compelling stories. The opportunity to learn from such highly skilled artists made this an exceptional educational experience.
Learning from the artists is key to the spirit of the Cultural Season, which is led by our dean of the French Baccalaureate and Swiss Maturité sections Daniel Zumbrunnen. Each year, he organises around four performances at the Collège Champittet chapel in Pully. The concerts are open to the public, at an accessible price for students from any school.
Our dean explains: “When I created the Cultural Season, it was always clear to me that there should also – and above all – be an educational objective in addition to the artistic and musical dimension. It seems to me that classical musicians of this calibre can only enrich our students’ schooling in a spectacular way: they are models of rigour, hard work, passion and perseverance in addition to their talent – everything we demand of our students!”
Although collaborations with artists of this calibre are frequent in Germany, this initiative at Collège Champittet is unique among Swiss schools.
We look forward to seeing what the rest of the Season brings!
By learning to plan their time wisely, students can be more productive, develop great study habits, and create a balanced lifestyle – one that fosters both personal and academic growth. Mastering this essential skill also sets them up for future success.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” Here at Champittet, we know that inspiring children to dream big while envisioning their future is a core part of education. It’s also the focus of Dare All Trades Day, or JOM (Journée Oser tous les Métiers).
The Winter Ball is an eagerly awaited annual tradition here at Champittet, but this year brought a twist: the school’s first ever Masquerade Ball. With the theme “Black and Gold, don’t forget your mask!”, this year’s winter dance was organised by 14th-grade IB students, and the event was open to students in grades 9 and 10.
