The inaugural ‘Celebration of the Arts’ was truly a celebration of the range of talent we have at Dover Court International School. The excitement was evident backstage as students anticipated their imminent performances, only to be duly matched by the full capacity house that applauded the effort given by all students. The students carried out the theme of the event ‘Outer Space’ – a symbol for limitless potential – to a standard they can all be proud of, while setting the bar high for future productions.

The concert blasted-off with the school orchestra’s rendition of the ‘Star Wars’ theme, in which its energy catapulted us into Holst’s ‘Mars’ theme – played by the Year 9 Music Ensemble. The forte blast of the timpani ostinato then subsided to the calm Asian drama, which led to the re-ignition of all cylinders for David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ – sonorously played by Felix, Joe and Tanner. The Korean Dancers then took the audience on a journey with a confident stage performance of ‘Colourful Clouds in the Sky’, whose elegance was complemented by the choir’s treble rendition of ‘A Whole New World’. The Hip Hop team followed by bringing us done to earth with the pulsating rhythms of ‘Mmmm Yeah’, only to be relaunched into orbit by Year 5, Laihla, Elaine and the Ballet group with their original song ‘Expanding Universe’. While in orbit, the Commedia IGCSE Drama group kept the audience buckled-in with a mime performance, which led the way for Yutong to express a spell-bounding and graceful solo Mongolian dance. Year 4 confidently began bringing our magical journey to a close, with 21st Century touching down with the high-energy rock number ‘Final Countdown’.
A special commendation to David Bradshaw from Harman Audio, who generously provided the audio systems to help make this event successful.

Our Year 7 students went on two amazing trips to Sibu Island, Malaysia, for their year group residential. Surrounded by the beauty of nature and immersed in a vibrant new culture, students had the chance to connect with their friends and make memories that will last forever.
