Juilliard alumna and concert pianist, Nellie Quinn, visited the Dover Court students last week to showcase the piano at its finest.

Students were treated to a performance of ‘Variations of Twinkle Little Star’ at the Primary and Secondary assemblies, which acted as a precursor to the master class sessions later in the day.

Six students were selected to perform at two Master Classes, where they each received invaluable feedback in front of a spellbound audience. These students included Anju Kawazu, Yutong Wang, Chris Li, Seia Yano, Ryan Brusic and Garrick Dung.

Nellie touched on a very important musical element for each performer – the interpretation of the melody! It was fantastic to see these students instantly transform the subtle nuances of their melodic playing and create greater expression to the lyrical phrasing of the pieces.

The methodology of practice was also discussed in an audience Q and A session. It is hoped that students took away the concept of focus and dedication, and apply what was discussed in all areas of academic study, competitive sport and music.

We now look forward to the upcoming visit from Juilliard alumnus Liam Day who will be at Dover Court on the 31st May.
