The Power of Parent Volunteers: Building a Stronger Dover Court Community

At Dover Court, our community is one of our greatest strengths.

Every day, students benefit from the dedication of outstanding teachers and staff. But there is another group working quietly behind the scenes to make school life richer, more connected and more memorable: our parent volunteers.

Through the Dover Court Association (DCA), parents come together to support students, families and staff, helping to create the welcoming and vibrant community that makes Dover Court so special.

For families considering international schools in Singapore, community is often just as important as academics. One of Dover Court's greatest strengths is its parent community. Through the Dover Court Association, parents help organise events, support new families, contribute to student initiatives and build the welcoming environment that makes Dover Court feel like home.

From organising much-loved community events and celebrations to leading sustainability initiatives, supporting fundraising efforts and helping new families feel at home, the DCA plays an important role in school life. Their contributions can be seen throughout the year, whether it's decorating the school for cultural celebrations such as Chinese New Year, running second-hand uniform sales, organising the Year 6 Disco and Year 13 Graduation Breakfast, or funding student social impact grants that empower our young people to make a difference.

Behind every event is a team of volunteers generously giving their time, expertise and energy to create meaningful experiences for broader school community.

Why parent involvement matters

Research shows that when families are actively engaged in school communities, students experience a greater sense of belonging, wellbeing and connection. Strong partnerships between home and school help children feel supported, valued and confident, while also strengthening the wider community around them. According to Harvard Graduate School of Education, decades of research demonstrate the benefits of strong family-school partnerships, including higher student achievement, better school engagement, improved attendance and stronger social and emotional development. Karen Mapp, a leading family engagement researcher at Harvard, describes parent participation as one of the strongest predictors of student success, regardless of background.

An active parent community helps families build friendships, creates valuable support networks, and fosters a stronger sense of belonging. For new families, getting involved can be one of the fastest ways to make connections and feel part of the Dover Court community.

Join the DCA Parent Community

Become a Class Parent

Class Parents play an important role in helping families connect, sharing key information and supporting engagement within each year group. It's a rewarding way to contribute directly to your child's school experience while building relationships with other parents.

Our Welcome Family Picnic is a relaxed opportunity to meet other families, reconnect with friends and build new relationships within the Dover Court community.
