International Book Day was celebrated at Dover Court with a week-long celebration, focusing on the author Roald Dahl.  The event was launched on Monday with a special message from Luke Kelly, Roald Dahl’s grandson, inspiring the children to take part in the week long competitions.

On the same day staff also dressed for the occasion as their favourite Roald Dahl characters.  Throughout the week in class, children studied different books from the author and completed a range of fiction and non-fiction activities, including; poems, stories, posters, reports and play scripts.

A particular highlight of the week was Extreme Reading, where children shared pictures of reading in the most extreme places across the world.  These images were displayed in a special montage in school.

The week concluded with a special book week assembly celebrating the outstanding work the children produced and the announced the winners of the ‘Design a Roald Dahl Book Cover’ and ‘Write a Roald Dahl Poem’ competitions.  Please see our other article for the winning entries.
