Last week, 15 students and two teachers, travelled to Manila in the Philippines to compete in the Not-So-Mini Global Round of the World Scholar’s Cup.
This year’s topic was titled ‘A World on the Margins’ and covered art, science and technology. Our students have sacrificed several hours of their school holidays to revise and several lunchtimes to squeeze in extra debate practice.
Our students had a busy week, taking part in debates, collaborative writing, the Scholar’s Challenge and the Scholar’s Bowl. But it wasn’t all hard work; students had to complete dance challenges as part of their scavenger hunts, sampled different cultures at the Cultural Fair and danced away to Havana at the Scholar’s Ball.
We explored Old and New Manila and learnt about the history of the Philippines. This included a tour of Fort Santiago and its eerie dungeons cells, Casa Manila and San Agustin, one of the oldest churches in the Philippines.
Myself, Mr Moody and Ms Eades are incredibly proud of our teams as they have returned with a whopping 54 medals between our 15 students. Additionally, three of our teams have also qualified for the Tournament of Champions at Yale. It really was a great trip, and we’ve all received a new furry alpaca friend as a memento!
