2024 Sixth Form Applications are now open
Year 3 have been seen chasing Golden Tickets around the school and munching chocolate in their classrooms these past weeks.
We met with Year 3 students Coco, Ivy, Josh and Zac to find out more about their latest topic.
Q: Hi Year 3, we have heard that there's been something that more sounds like party activities than school work going on in Year 3; with you finding Golden Tickets and drinking hot chocolate, that can't be educational, can it?
Coco: Well, actually it is! It is very educational, we have learned about how chocolate is made.
Ivy: And what it tastes like, by using our taste buds!
Zac: And we have also been learning about the history of chocolate, that is very educational.
Josh: You could actually also say that we learn about science, because we learn about how you make it taste better and how it also can be a bit healthy for us.
Q: That does sound a bit educational! Can you teach us about the history of chocolate?
Josh: Chocolate was discovered a very long time ago, around 1400 bc I think. They first used it to make hot chocolate.
Zac: Yes, first they drank chocolate, it was the Mayans in Central America who first started using it.
Ivy: The hot chocolate the Mayans drank was really spicy! They actually put real chilli in it.
Coco: We got to try some Mayan hot chocolate in class. It was very spicy. I actually absolutely did not like it all. I don't even like regular spicy food!
Zac: I think that it tastes good to some people! I finished the whole thing, but didn't really like it that much, it was very spicy.
Q: So Golden Tickets? Can you really learn something from looking for Golden Tickets?
Josh: The Golden Tickets were part of our entry point. We went to the big playground to try to find as many as possible.
Coco: They all had facts written on them, like facts about cocoa plants, the history of chocolate and about Willy Wonka.
Ivy: Yes, because we are reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory now!
Q: Year 3, it seems like you are correct, learning about chocolate does sound like proper school work! What has been your favourite part of this topic so far?
Zac: Tasting chocolate!
Ivy: Yes, we didn't really know what we were going to do, we were just told to cover our eyes and taste something. And it was real chocolate.
Coco: And it was so yummy!
