Dover Court Model United Nations 2023

Dover Court Model United Nations 2023 - Dover Court Model United Nations 2023
After our successful inaugural Dover Court Model United Nations (MUN) last year, we were excited to see the return of the two-day student-led conference in Term 2.
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real-world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country.

The MUN was the culmination of many hours of research and preparation by Dover Court’s Secondary students. The students, who were all interested in learning more about how the United Nations (UN) operates, simulated various state or non-state actors, such as Non-Governmental Organisations, by bringing their individual agendas to the discussion. The delegates formulated position papers and created policy proposals that they debated with the other delegates in their committee.

The event was a great success, and the delegates got to use their communication and collaboration skills, as well as practicing diplomacy and international relations.

Jaeden, Model United Nations 2023 Secretary General and Year 11 student shared his reflections from the conference.

“The student-run event that aims to engage students in speaking, critical thinking and collaboration to develop a range of skills. This year we had three councils from the United Nations and one International criminal court with over 55 students across all.

As secretary general, Jaya Sall and I organised and planned the event and trained our committee leads to run their individual committees over weeks to prepare for our own student MUN conference. Through these committees, we’ve seen peers with different debating skills and abilities try their absolute best and present varying evidence, some true and some false, to support their country’s views. We would like to thank all students for a great event and Ms Anantaraja, Mr Verdon and the Secondary Support Team.”
