Leadership Journey of Abraham: Dover Court International School Head Student Spotlight

Leadership Journey DCIS Secondary student
At Dover Court, students are given the opportunity to improve the student experience further.

In our second Dover Court International School Student Leadership Spotlight series, we had a chat with Year 12 Head Student Abraham. He has been in Dover Court since Year 7 and has grown tremendously throughout the years taking on various student leadership roles. Read on to understand his leadership journey and growth throughout Secondary school as a House Captain, in sports and more!

Q. How has Dover Court shaped you as a student leader?

A. I’ve been at Dover since Year 7 so it’s my fifth year here now. Throughout the years, I have participated in different student leadership roles. I was part of the Student Council one year and as Dover progressed and grew, I was also a member of the Change Makers. I was Jurong House Captain for 3-4 years where I led and encouraged students to do more sports and be involved in the House Committee. I feel I’m more confident in the way I speak and I’m able to encourage others to chip in to do their part. I think this has helped me a lot and will help me in the future.

Q. What are some of the initiatives you did when you were a House Captain?

A. One of the roles as the House Captain is to get students involved and sign them up for activities and competitions between the different Houses.

Q. You are active in sports, playing volleyball, basketball, and football. How have sports grown your leadership skills?

A. All the sports I have played over the years are team based and it has allowed me to collaborate with my teammates. This is applicable to everyday life, especially as Head Student where it is important for me to work with all students to progress together as a school and for the students’ voices to be heard. Sports have allowed me to improve my teamwork.

Q. What is one skill every leader should have?

A. I think it's communication because no matter what great ideas you have, it might not be shared or grown if you are not able to communicate it well with others and make the ideas become a reality.

Q. What do you hope to bring as a Head Student?

A. I like to enhance and promote the wellbeing of students by working with the Head and Deputy Heads of school. When I was running for Head Student, I made a promise to organise more events to bring everyone together. I’m working with Shya to bring these to life!
