Dover Court Celebrates Book Week

Dover Court Celebrates Book Week - Dover Court Celebrates Book Week

One of the favourite weeks of the year – Book Week was celebrated across the whole school in March.

The Dover Court focus for Book Week this year was storytelling. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to practice their oracy skills as they learn how to craft a good tale. The classes have been full of excited adventures, scary suspense and fairy-tale endings as the children listen to each other develop their storytelling skills.

We also had our highly competitive bookmark creating competition. There has been some weird and wonderful extreme reading. We’ve had visits from parents and other teachers into the classrooms to share their favourite stories. The students have had the opportunity to spend some money buying books at the book fair. Students have also brought some pre-loved books from home to swap with other students to share the joy of reading. Everywhere you looked this week, you could see students getting excited by books.

In the Library, we have celebrated the shortlists for the Red Dot Book Awards, with students voting for their favourite in their category. These votes will be passed on and we will soon find out the overall winners from the schools that participate in Singapore. Mrs Walker is also looking for students who are interested in participating in the Readers Festival - an online competition against schools that have read the Red Dot Book Awards. It will be Dover Court's first year participating and we'd love to win!

And, of course, no Book Week would be complete without dress-up day and this year was fabulous! We had all sorts of great costumes and the students had so much fun in our Book Week parade. Thank you to everyone at home who has supported the students with Book Week and helped make it such a success.
