Dover Court End of Term 2 2024-2025 Primary Message - Dover Court End of Term 2 2024-2025 Primary Message

Dear Dover Court Families,

When I wrote my first newsletter for Term 2 back in January, I expressed that whilst shorter in length than Term 1, I felt we would see great growth in our learners during Term 2. I can safely say that this has certainly been the case, with so many rich learning experiences leading to an increase in confidence and flourishing both within and beyond the classroom.

One place where this has been evident has been in the numerous Exhibitions of Learning and Exit points that have taken place this term. These student-led events have showcased artistic prowess, science and engineering engagement in MIT challenges, sustainable practices and the importance of balance in ecosystems. It was a delight to see our children present with pride and confidence, with exhibits modelling our values of excellence and creativity. I’m also convinced that the wonderful creations and exhibits from our EYFS exhibition would not look out of place in the Art Science Museum! These, combined with our children’s reflections on learning on SeeSaw, have provided insight into the skills, knowledge and understanding gained through their learning, demonstrating our values of cultivating creativity and aspiring to excellence.

These values have also been evident in the many music showcases and performances taking place in Term 2. We had our Year 3 music showcases, Years 5 and 6 Dover’s Got Talent Shows, CCA showcase concerts, class assemblies, Splat concerts and Blue Dot sessions, to name a few. These diverse celebrations have been further enriched with special events and festivities, including our Lunar New Year Temple Fair, Book Week, Neurodiversity Week and Hari Raya, bringing further colour and joy into the school.

Beyond the school we have fostered resilience through our camps, with our Year 6 students enjoying the sun and sea in Tioman and our Year 3 students engaging in DCIS’ biggest sleepover in the sports hall. We have been on many day trips all across Singapore, and our Planet Protectors student group was awarded the Bronze Eco School Award from WWF Singapore.

Alongside resilience, our sporting teams acted with integrity and aspired to excellence as they represented the DCIS Wolves. The number of fixtures, tournaments and training sessions have been significant. So far this year we have had over 500 Primary students representing 37 Primary teams across a range of sports, such as football, netball, basketball, rugby, and swimming. A further highlight was the performance of the 24 DCIS students who represented us at the NAE SEA games in Cambodia. I personally received a number of correspondences from those present, praising the conduct of the entire DCIS team both on and off the field of play.

None of the above would be possible without the amazing efforts of our team of teachers and teaching assistants. Your child’s class teacher and TA, our specialist teachers for PE, music, Mandarin and computing, our learning support teams, therapists and leadership teams are all working hard to ensure these experiences and memories are made. I want to thank them all and yourselves for making Dover Court a special community to be a part of and I hope you all have a wonderful end of term break.
