At Dover Court International School (DCIS), we are committed to empowering students to become well-rounded, globally minded individuals through a balanced and internationally recognised education. This is why we offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in our Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13).
When choosing Sixth Form education, families often compare the International IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) with other curricular options. At DCIS, we believe the IB programme closely aligns with our school’s mission and values, providing students with a broad, balanced, and internationally-recognised education. The IB Programme supports both academic success and personal growth, preparing students not only for top universities but also for life.
A Broad and Balanced Curriculum
The IB Diploma Programme encourages students to study six subjects across a wide range of areas: languages, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, and the arts. This broad approach ensures that students maintain flexibility in their academic and career choices while developing into well-rounded individuals who can think critically and make connections across disciplines. At DCIS, we believe this breadth is essential for students who are still discovering their passions and strengths.
Developing Skills for Success
Beyond subject knowledge, the IB develops essential skills that universities and employers value most. Through the Extended Essay, students gain experience in independent research and academic writing. The Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course encourages analytical thinking and prompts students to consider multiple perspectives. Meanwhile, Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) fosters leadership, collaboration, and social responsibility through co-curricular and community engagement. These components help students grow into confident, reflective learners prepared to succeed in a complex world.
A Passport to Global Opportunities
The IB programme is recognised and respected by universities worldwide. Its rigorous academic standards and holistic approach make IB graduates stand out in competitive admissions processes across Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond. At DCIS, we see the IB as a gateway to global opportunities, empowering students to pursue higher education wherever their aspirations lead.
Supporting Every Learner
DCIS is proud to be a non-selective school, and yet around 95% of our Year 12 students choose to study the IB Programme. This highlights the accessibility and flexibility of the IB, which caters to a diverse range of learners through structured guidance, our small class sizes (generally 8–14 students), and a focus on both academic achievement and personal growth. For students seeking a more flexible approach, we also offer the IB Courses route.
Dover Court’s inclusive approach brings out the best in every learner. Dover Court’s 2025 cohort – the largest in the school’s 50+ year history – achieved an outstanding average IB score of 36, with a top score of 44 and an impressive average subject grade of 5.7. These results highlight the distinctive strength of Dover Court’s inclusive and non-selective community – where flexible, personalised strategies are thoughtfully designed to challenge and support every student in reaching their personal best.
More Than Just Exams
The IB Diploma Programme is designed to develop the whole person. It encourages students to become curious, independent thinkers who have the confidence to address complex real-world issues. Each subject includes non-examined components, which contribute to final grades and support students who may not thrive in purely exam-based assessments. The programme fosters curiosity, resilience, and international-mindedness – qualities that equip students not only for university but also for fulfilling lives and careers.
The IB Advantage at DCIS
At DCIS, the IB Diploma Programme is more than just a curriculum; it's a transformative journey that prepares students for life beyond school. While it is academically rigorous, the programme is designed to be accessible and supportive, helping students develop essential skills such as time management, independence, and critical thinking. The IB programme at DCIS, with its small class sizes and flexible structure, encourages students to explore their interests, participate in creative and service activities, and grow into confident, globally minded individuals who are ready for university and beyond.
