Student Leadership at Dover Court: Meet Our Head and Deputy Head Students for 2026-27

At Dover Court International School in Singapore, leadership is about giving students the confidence to share their ideas, take initiative, represent their peers and make a positive difference in their community.

We are delighted to introduce our Head Students for the 2026-2027 Academic Year, Mika and Zyra, and Deputy Head Students, Dan and Leia, who will play an important role in representing student voice and supporting the school community over the coming year.

Their appointments follow an election process that saw candidates present their manifestos to students and staff before taking part in a school-wide vote. The process highlighted the confidence, commitment and passion that leadership opportunities can inspire throughout a student's journey at Dover Court.

Leadership Starts Early

Leadership opportunities begin in Primary School through our unique CHAMP programme, which brings together Student Councillors, House Captains, Agency Advocates, Media and Technology Advocates, and Planet Protectors.

These roles give students the opportunity to contribute to school initiatives, lead projects, support events and represent the views of their peers.

A recent example comes from our Planet Protectors, a group of student leaders in Years 3 to 6 who led an initiative to reduce single-use waste across the school. Through their reusable cups campaign, students encouraged the school community to make more sustainable choices in their daily routines.

As the students say in their campaign video:

"We are here to make a difference. We are here to make better choices."

It is a great example of how leadership at Dover Court is rooted in action, with students identifying issues they care about and working together to create positive change.

Growing as Leaders

As students move through Secondary School and Sixth Form, opportunities continue to expand through the Student Council, House system, community initiatives, social impact projects and the International Baccalaureate's Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme.

These experiences help students develop valuable life skills, including communication, collaboration, resilience and teamwork, while encouraging them to think about how they can positively influence the communities around them.

For many families, student leadership is an important part of education. Beyond academic success, these experiences help students build confidence, develop communication skills and learn how to work effectively with others.

At the heart of these opportunities is student voice. Students are encouraged to contribute ideas, represent their peers and play an active role in shaping their school experience.

This progression of leadership opportunities, from Primary School initiatives to Sixth Form leadership roles, helps students build confidence and responsibility over time.

Meet Our Student Leaders for 2026-27

Dan, Deputy Head Student

Now in his eleventh year at Dover Court, having joined in Reception, Dan's leadership journey began in Primary School. Over the years, he has served as a Student Council representative and a House Representative. Earlier this year, Dan represented Dover Court at the Nord Anglia Education Student Summit in Houston, one of the many global opportunities available to students through Dover Court's membership of Nord Anglia Education. Students from around the world came together to explore leadership, collaboration and social impact while developing the skills to use their voices with purpose.

"The thing I love most about Dover Court is how easy it is for new students to join the community. My goal is to listen to as many student voices as possible and show students that young people can make a positive impact within Dover Court and the wider Singapore community."

Reflecting on his experiences, Dan believes student leadership helps develop skills that extend well beyond school.

"This has truly developed life skills such as leadership to encourage peers to join group tasks, communication to solve differences in opinions with respect and even creativity to host events."

Leia, Deputy Head Student

Leia is in her fifth year at Dover Court and has embraced a range of leadership opportunities throughout her time at the school.

"During my years as a student, I have participated in many different leadership roles such as Student Council and House Captain. It's something that I've really enjoyed and I'm excited to have another opportunity to do something I'm passionate about."

One of Leia's key goals is to build stronger connections between Primary and Secondary students through a reading buddy programme.

"What I love most about Dover Court is the diversity of our school. I would like to make our school a more cohesive place through programmes that bring Primary and Secondary students together."

Mika, Head Student

Having joined Dover Court in Year 8 and now studying in Year 12 as an IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) student, Mika values the opportunities available to students both inside and outside the classroom.

"What I love most about Dover Court is the range of opportunities provided to students. I hope to make a positive impact by making sure student voices are heard, and we actually do something about them."

Zyra, Head Student

Zyra joined Dover Court in Year 10 and is now in Year 12 studying IB Diploma Programme. For her, the welcoming nature of the school community is what makes Dover Court special.

"One thing I love most about Dover Court is the welcoming community. My goal as a student leader is to make sure every student feels they can make a difference to the school by working closely with other student leaders to make Dover Court the best version it can be."

A School Where Every Student Has the Opportunity to Lead

From Planet Protectors and Student Councillors in Primary School to House Representatives, Change Makers, CAS leaders and Head Students, leadership takes many forms at Dover Court.

What connects these opportunities is a shared belief that students learn best when they are trusted to take ownership, contribute to their community and turn ideas into action. Whether leading a sustainability project, representing Dover Court at an international student summit, supporting younger students through peer mentoring or advocating for student voice, Dover Court students are encouraged to make a positive difference.

As Mika, Zyra, Dan and Leia begin their leadership journey, we look forward to seeing the ideas and initiatives they bring to the year ahead. Together with student leaders across the school, they will help ensure student voice remains at the heart of life at Dover Court.
