Dear Parents,
This week has seen the final IBDP examination take place and we are absolutely delighted that we had the opportunity to complete this session. It was a long and hard decision for IB to decide who could carry out exams and who might need to go down the route of self- assessment. Brazil thankfully was allowed to complete examinations. If not, it may have proved more of a challenge for us as this method relies on previous years data from the school, something we currently do not have. There was also a risk too that the pandemic may have affected us but with all the precautions we have in place, we have successfully reached the end.
Our Year 13 students will be having our first graduation event on the 10th June and we really look forward to celebrating with them. They have now almost completed high school and will receive their certificate for this. Exam results will be out in July and we look forward to this significant event for us, hoping our students received the necessary results to attend the universities of their choice. We know we have some fantastic offers, as can be seen in this video, and are confident they will get to go wherever they choose. This is what we want for our students and families and of course that they are good people, upholding the IBDP values throughout their lives.
We have also enjoyed this week our celebrations of the World Cultural Day of Diversity. This day is held on Friday 21st June this year and we thought a perfect time to enjoy our international heritage and also celebrate our differences and similarities. It also coincides this year with our renewed work and launch of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion plan. Our day actually lasted for 3 days, from Wednesday to Friday. As we have a 3-day rotation we had to do this to give every student in Primary the opportunity to wear something representing their home country. Secondary had a one day focus today. Please do talk to your children about it.
There are many amazing things about learning in an international school, and these celebratory occasions are just one of them. It is extremely important to learn about the country many of us are guests in. For those new to the school this year, like myself, we are still yet to witness Carnival, Festa Junina and many other annual celebrations, but this has given us at least the opportunity to learn about it. Hopefully next year we will be testing out our Samba dances and throwing ourselves fully in to Brazilian culture when we get the opportunity.
Thank you as ever to all the staff at school who take such incredible pride and make exceptional efforts to ensure the children learn, have fun and share great experiences together. That is what an international mindset and culture is all about. Toda uma família!
