PKC Celebrates Earth Day!
Early Monday morning PKC students got off the school bus and came inside the classroom, just like any other day. As they came in they all noticed something different. In the middle of the classroom, on a table, were all sorts gardening materials which I set up earlier for provocation as part of our Earth Day celebration. There were watering cans in different shapes, colors and sizes, a dozen trowels with green handles, bags of vegetable seeds and a tray full of tomato, pepper and pumpkin seedlings. The children simply stared at the things on the table. They were probably not sure what they were looking at. Finally, Leo walked in and asked,” What are these, Mrs. Corey?” I did not answer Leo’s question. Instead, I asked the children to gather around the table to inspect the gardening materials one by one. After that I asked the children what they think we might be using them for. I waited. Then Lucas gave us a big smile and said,” We will plant the tomato, Mrs. Corey!” Everyone was excited! PKC headed to the EY garden and planted tomatoes, peppers and pumpkins.
