Say Thank You!

As we enter Thanksgiving week here at CDS, we are reminded to take a day and be thankful for the things and people that had an impact on us this year.  The pandemic may have forced us to isolate more than we have ever been used to, but it cannot take away our ability to live a grateful life. Being grateful doesn't just happen once a year.  It is a mindset, a behavior that is part of a way of life.  The only way to live this way is to take each day and list the things we are grateful for.  It is only then that you begin to shift to being grateful.

My hope this week is that we as a school community can continue to be more and more grateful for the things given to us and to not take anything for granted.  I'm grateful for this school, the people I get to work with every day and the students in the MIddle and High School who bring an energy each day to their screens as they learn through this pandemic.

So say thank you to someone this week.  Be and live gratefully.

NAE Swimming Gala ends tomorrow! (5pm Saturday, November 21st)

  • After your race, submit your time to this form: NAE Virtual Swimming Gala Time Submission Form

  • You will complete one form per event you compete in. (If you swim in three events, you will complete and submit the form three different times).

  • Only one submission is needed per relay team (see instructions in the form).

  • No proof of time is necessary for this event.

Students and teachers have the opportunity to compete in up to 4 events (listed in the photo).

Since we cannot use our pool at CDS based on Covid restrictions, swimmers must use a 25m pool they can gain access to.

No Homework Holiday

This Thanksgiving holiday will be a no homework holiday for students.  We hope everyone will be able to enjoy the long break and not think about school work for a few days.

The Spirit of Giving

In the spirit of showing gratitude, we will create baskets of supplies for the Country Day School maintenance, cleaning, cafeteria, secretarial and security staff. We ask that each student  bring in an item to fill the  “gratitude baskets” to help show appreciation of the people who help us each day.

Please bring in the following items:

  • Early Childhood - Rice & BeanSpirit of giving
  • Elementary - Non-perishable food (NOT rice & beans)
  • Middle School - Soaps & detergents
  • High School - Luxury snacks

As there are 39 maintenance, cleaning, cafeteria, secretarial and security staff members, it is very important that each student bring in an item so we can fill the baskets with supplies for each staff member.

Please be sure to send in your item before Friday, December 4. The highschool National Honor Society students will put the baskets together and deliver them to the staff!  Thank you for your help in showing gratitude to the amazing staff who make our CDS experience possible!

We are all looking forward to the upcoming long weekend this week in honor of US Thanksgiving and the Abolición del Ejército holiday. Please be sure that your child spends this time away from the screen and is able to get outside and enjoy time out of doors and with family as much as possible.

Please reach out to your child’s teacher, one of the primary counselors, or myself if you have questions.

Wishing you and your family a lovely long weekend.

Happenings in the MS

7th grade scientists watch as the Crew Dragon makes its journey from Cape Canaveral, Florida to the International Space Station. As we watched, questions were asked regarding how astronauts were staying safe from Covid, and if Covid may present different symptoms in microgravity.

Final Assessment Schedule

The final assessment schedule for the end of the semester is available here.  Not all classes will have final exams, but we have created a schedule that will allow for students to study for exams and prepare any final presentations or projects for the week.
