Physical Education classes improve students’ overall fitness and develop their gross motor skills, social and emotional well-being, and healthy lifestyles. We encourage students to participate in sports and to exercise good sportsmanship: showing responsibility and respect towards each team, excelling physically and emotionally, and learning the importance of self-respect alongside respect for teammates, friends, and other teams.

Active Living in Early Childhood

In Early Childhood, we believe athletics teach children good sportsmanship and give them the opportunity to play both on a team and as an individual, as they build their skills and have fun! Young children learn to use their bodies through gross and fine motor skills. We don't emphasize "winning" or "losing" at any level in Early Childhood. Instead, we focus on the student's enjoyment and becoming a good team member.

Middle and High School Competitions

Our student-athletes represent CDS in tournaments across Costa Rica and Central America, competing with pride and integrity.

All middle school students take PE twice per six-day rotation, participating in sports such as basketball, volleyball, and soccer. A co-ed swimming program is also available year-round for students interested in aquatic sports.

A Lifelong Love of Sports

The High School PE program is designed to foster fitness, resilience, and a lasting appreciation for physical activity. Through consistent effort, students develop individual athletic skills, build healthy habits, and set personal fitness goals.

These experiences help shape character and discipline that support both academic and personal growth.

Lifetime Sports

At CDS, we offer year-round opportunities for all our sports programs for MS & HS such as Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Swimming and Track and Field. However, each sport has a specific tryouts and in-season period, during which training intensity increases and key events—such as the ACTION tournament and/or AASCA tournament—take place.
During this time, student-athletes are expected to prioritize their in-season sport over any other extracurricular or athletic activities they may be involved in.

This ensures full commitment to the team and allows athletes to perform at their highest potential when it matters most.
