Early Learning Journey
What is it that makes the NAS Jakarta Early Years program special? Is it our highly qualified and passionate educators? Is it our beautiful and thoughtful indoor and outdoor learning environments? Is it our strong belief and understanding in our play-based approach towards Early Years education? It is a culmination of all these factors and more. Our holistic, community-centred program puts your child at the centre of their learning. We value and embrace all our families in our diverse learning environment and together will lay the foundations of life-long learning for your child. We know, and value, that your child is unique. That is why our educational offer is tailor-made for each child in our care and they are each supported and challenged at the level appropriate to their developmental stage.
Curriculum and Philosophy
We stay up-to-date with best educational practices from around the world and enhance our own offer accordingly. Our main curriculum guidance comes from the UK. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is a robust, enabling and well-rounded document that values every child as a unique and competent learner who will develop and learn in their own way and at their own pace. Our Early Years teachers also embrace the Reggio Emilia approach towards education; believing that children learn best through self-directed, experiential play in a relationship driven environment. We recognise that the importance of play cannot be understated. Play is a fundamental part of a child’s learning journey that will only strengthen their later educational successes.
The prime areas of learning in the EYFS are Personal, Social, Emotional Development; Communication and Language; and Physical Development. These overarching development areas are taught implicitly and explicitly through the well thought out activities on offer in our learning environments and are complimented and enhanced by the EYFS specific areas of learning, which are: Literacy, Numeracy, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
Communication
We believe that our school community thrives as a result of the cohesive relationships between our students, staff and parents, united in our common goal of enabling every child to flourish. Continued collaboration with our families is achieved through regular educational workshops, providing the opportunity for parents to learn more about current educational practice. As well as through school and class newsletters; meet and mingle coffee mornings; parent-teacher meetings, learning showcases and bi-annual reports to update you on your child’s progress and wellbeing at school.
Tracking your child’s growth and learning
We use an internationally renowned online program, called Tapestry, to track your child’s development across all areas of the curriculum. Parents are given a Tapestry login and are able to follow their child’s learning journey through photos, videos and blurbs written and posted by their child’s teacher.
Outdoor learning
Children are naturally drawn to the outdoors and the exploration and physical opportunities it provides. At NAS Jakarta, we have a lush green campus with many outdoor spaces to discover and explore. Your young learner will have the chance to chase butterflies, see nesting birds, scale climbing frames, construct water channels, try their hand at gardening or engage with any number of activities set out by our early years team. Outdoor time is an extension of the learning and inquiry taking place in the classrooms. Teachers are actively involved with students during outdoor exploration, helping the children to make connections in their learning and develop respect for nature.
