Primary School
Our Primary programme offers students a dynamic and challenging education that will support your child’s growth as a rounded, lifelong learner. We encourage children to be inquisitive and to develop as independent learners, prepared to take risks. We want them to take pride in their learning and be highly motivated to do well.
We create a culture in which students are pushed to extend and challenge their learning; to analyse and reflect; to take risks; and to develop intellectual confidence. We strive to ensure that all children achieve their best and carefully plan learning and development around the individual needs and interests of each child.
Our curriculum is rigorous, contemporary and globally focused. Using a blend of the British National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), we adopt a creative and inquiry approach which develops children’s natural curiosity and fosters a desire to learn, think and take risks. A cross-curricular approach to teaching helps children to make meaningful connections in their learning and links their studies to the real world. We also recognise the role of technology in the current and future lives of our students and create meaningful opportunities for children to learn, explore and use modern technology across the curriculum.
Our small class sizes and personalised approach mean that every child is supported and challenged through a positive culture of goal setting, measuring progress and achievement, and celebrating success.
International Primary Curriculum (IPC)
NAS was the first school in Indonesia to implement IPC. It provides a cross-curricular, thematic, rigorous teaching structure designed to engage children of all abilities in today’s world. In IPC learning, the focus is on teaching skills to achieve knowledge, leading to understanding using well-planned thematic studies. Science, geography, history, ICT, art, music, technology, society, and Physical Education (PE) are all incorporated into the thematic learning.
Flourishing
We want our students to flourish, now and in their future lives, and so create the best culture and environment for this to happen. Our skilled teachers work closely with each child to ensure they have a highly personalised and progressive education; supporting them to achieve academically and creating exciting learning experiences that allow each child to develop socially, emotionally, creatively and physically.
Through the formal and informal curriculum, we support all children to develop social confidence; to be self-reliant and self-disciplined; and to form positive relationships with students and adults. We help them to become more globally aware and to start to understand what it means to be part of a community.
Children have regular opportunities to learn beyond the classroom through:
- Extensive extra-curricular activities programme
- Exciting educational day visits
- Themed learning days
- Inter-school sports and swimming events
- Engagement in Nord Anglia Education’s Global Campus
- Drama and musical productions
- Visual and performing arts carnivals and events
- Service learning opportunities
- Residential trips within Indonesia and beyond
Specialist Programmes
Dutch Language
We offer a Dutch language and culture programme to our Dutch speaking community. Children have daily Dutch language lessons, taught by qualified and experienced Dutch teachers, following the Dutch Primary Core Goals (Kerndoelen Primair Onderwijs). Children have the option to sit the national CITO tests. Children also have access to a full cultural calendar scheduled to recognise and celebrate key dates.
EAL (English as an Additional Language)
In recognising the individual needs of our students, we offer a full EAL programme. Children new to English, or still developing their English language skills, have access to a daily programme with specialist EAL teachers. This programme supports students to progressively build their confidence and competency to use English across all areas of learning.
Indonesian Language and Culture
We offer a Bahasa Indonesia Language and Cultural programme for our Indonesian students. Children are taught daily by qualified and experienced local teachers. International students can opt to study on our Bahasa Studies programme.
Learning Support
Students with an identified need for additional learning support, work to an Individual Learning Plan monitored by key staff. We work closely with the child and family, to ensure that support is effectively targeted and that the child makes the best progress possible.
