The performing arts are a core component of your child’s education at NAS Jakarta. In many studies, researchers have found links between studying performing arts and children’s enhanced development and growth, academically, socially and personally.
Learning about, and through, the performing arts promotes creativity, critical thinking, teamwork and problem solving skills. Studying music, dance and drama encourages innovative thinking and creative use of technologies, an essential component in preparing students to participate fully in a changing world.
The Juilliard School
We are excited to be launching our collaboration with The Juilliard School, a world leader in performing arts education. This unique programme will enrich our students’ understanding and appreciation of the arts, in addition to fostering valuable life skills.
Over the coming year, our specialist music teacher, Brentan Schilling will undertake exclusive training with Juilliard faculty while students will have the opportunity to participate in the Southeast Asia performing arts festival with fellow Nord Anglia students from across the region.
Students have weekly lessons, studying composers, genres and learning a variety of traditional and popular instruments such as the ukulele and guitar, in addition to singing tuition. Music lessons are also available through our popular ECA programme.
Our students benefit from an innovative music curriculum developed in collaboration with Juilliard, which is launching fully in September 2020. The leading-edge curriculum enhances learning through a repertoire of great works of art, hand selected by Juilliard, and the teaching of keyboard skills which act as an entry point for learning music theory.
Dance and Drama
Students are able to shine on the stage through our regular talent shows, performance assemblies or through our yearly drama productions, all performed here at NAS Jakarta on our main hall stage or in our more intimate theatre room.
In future years, our Juilliard collaboration will expand to enrich our dance and drama curriculums, enabling students to learn about influential works of art in these subjects, and the history, cultures and theory which underpins them.
