Primary EAL Teaching Assistant

  • Period: Full Time (8:00am – 3:30pm, Monday - Friday)

In fulfilling the purpose of the EAL Teaching Assistant role the post holder will be responsible to:

  • Demonstrate enjoyment in being with children and endeavour to develop good relationships with them
  • Work as directed by the Head of EAL or EAL teacher. This could include supporting in an EAL classroom or mainstream classroom, working with an individual EAL child or small group on a withdrawal basis, (the assistant is not in charge of planning for the class/group activities but must read the EAL teacher’s planning).
  • Plan time carefully so as to give full attention to the children in class
  • Perform regular supervision duties and take responsibility in the playground
  • Attend professional development meetings (as directed by the Head of EAL)
  • Assist with the making of resources or putting up of displays as required
  • Follow the normal process of appraisal for teaching assistants
  • Refer parental inquires or other sensitive issues to the HoEAL
  • Make parents feel welcome
  • Monitor children’s progress and give an overview to HoEAL as part of the reporting process.
  • Ensure confidentiality and professional conduct at all times
  • Attend departmental meetings when required by HoEAL.
  • Assist with School Trips when necessary.
