Coordinated by Assistant Head of Primary (Early Years and Key Stage 1) Karyn Walton, the workshop aims to give parents an understanding of what the Early Years curriculum entails in a British International school and how it differs from the Primary and Secondary curriculums.
Mrs. Walton is excited at an opportunity to collaborate with parents, “three-way communication between school, parent and child is critical at a young age. By creating a forum to discuss important issues we can exchange information much easier than we have been previously.”
Committed to providing as much assistant to parents as possible, Regents International School Pattaya will ensure the workshop will be run in three separate languages – English, Thai and Japanese. “We have a fluent speaker running each component. Not every parent speaks English and we want to get maximum participation.”
The invitation is also extended to parents without children at Regents. “We think we have the right formula in Early Years to ensure students get the best possible start to their education, so this is the perfect opportunity for parents who are yet to enroll their son or daughter to see what we are all about.”
The day itself will be made up of three parts. The first part is an introductory and information based session where parents get an understanding of what Early Years schooling at Regents International School Pattaya provides. The second session is made up of classroom visits so parents can have a first-hand experience in a learning environment typical of Regents. Finally, a session is held where the focus is on communication expectations and why it’s important. This includes times set aside to teach parents how to use Moodle and Orbit - two programs integral at Regents.
“We see this initiative as an ongoing programme and chance for teachers and parents to collaboratively engage in the students’ school-life. Early Years is such a critical part in the developmental process and here at Regents we want to make sure we are doing everything we can to improve that process.
The first workshop will be held on the 8th of January. Keep your eyes peeled for more details or alternatively contact Karyn Walton via email: Karyn.Walton@regents-pattaya.co.th
