School to re-open Monday 21 September

20 September 2015

Dear Parents and all staff,

I am pleased to be able to confirm that school will be open as usual tomorrow ( Monday ) and that the Year 11 Outdoor Education trip to Kanchanaburi is going ahead as planned.

Thank you to all of the staff who helped us deal with a challenging day on Thursday and to all parents whose support and understanding was greatly appreciated in the circumstances. Well done to all of the students too whose good humour and co-operation in spite of the soggy conditions did not go unnoticed.

Since Thursday we have drafted in contractors to survey all of our buildings and ensure the highest standards of safety following the deluge. I am pleased to report that everywhere has dried out well and we were fortunate in not suffering significant damage or huge loss of resources. Some social media traffic seemed to suggest we had some catastrophes but these reports were inaccurate and hugely exaggerated. Some ingress of water from overflowing gutters necessitated some plasterboard replacement but this was done quickly and any other repairs are mostly routine rainy season maintenance issues.

Be assured school is safe. In the rare and extreme weather event last week we, like other local schools, assessed the various risks and decided to close in the interests of everybody’s safety and well-being. Thank you once again for your support. I sincerely hope that the effects of the heavy rain and floods were minimal beyond school and urge people to contact us if you think we may be able to assist in any way.

Let’s hope it’s a drier week ahead!

Best regards

Iain Blaikie
