Beside the Seaside

During the outdoor education week, all the students showed very impressive team work and perseverance and commitment whilst doing their activities and projects. We were very motivated to achieve our goals. However, all of this could not be completed without our wonderful teachers, who never give up on us and motivate us even if we give up on ourselves. Many thanks to our teachers for this fascinating week of outdoor education.

Year 13 embark upon an intense learning adventure.

It is important to start the year with fun, especially the dark and cruel last year of IB! With this in mind, the Year 13 students went to Rayong to kickstart their last year at Regents. The beauty of the beach resort we were staying at delighted everyone, and the first thought was to stretch out by the pool and take a nap. However, when you are a Year 13 IB student, that is one thing you can’t do, because there is more fun stuff to do, for example an adventure race including an obstacle course, carrying barrels on the sand under the heat and a quiz of 49 questions. As you can probably guess, everyone except the teachers were barely moving after an extremely exhausting first day.  The first day’s focus involved getting started on our university applications with UCAS and getting guidance on how to write an effective personal statement.

The following day we split into two groups: one group cycled to the beach for a surfing lesson whilst the other team began their all-important TOK presentation planning. On the third day, we started with the experiments for our Group 4 Science Projects: groups of 4 enthusiastic students from all Sciences carried out their research on the theme of “Beside the Seaside”! There was a wide range of tests being carried out, from researching the best hammock design to how to build the strongest sandcastle – we were all being assessed on how well we worked as a team.  Then, we visited the local Thai school for a service activity where we taught the children some English and played games with them. Later that day we were building a raft, and preparing our group 4 presentations.  

The 4th day was definitely the most fun day of the week. We worked for about 2 hours on our group projects in the morning, and then sailed to an island, where we swam, explored the islands and relaxed, we also learnt what it means to “miss the boat”. In the evening, the students presented their Group 4 Projects.

The last day of the week, we went on a nice boat trip in a local wetland ecosystem, planted trees and packed our bags ready to go back to school.
