A Reflection by Suri, our Acting Principal for World Children's Day

23 November 2017

On Monday 20 November 2017, Regents International School Pattaya celebrated World Children's Day in collaboration with Nord Anglia Education and UNICEF by taking part in a student takeover. Head Girl Suri had the opportunity to replace Ms Sarah Osborne-James as Principal for a day and here are her thoughts.

For me personally, this experience was really eye opening and it introduced me to a whole new side of the school I had never even comprehended. My morning started off with a briefing with the teachers where other teachers replaced by students also gave their announcements. Then the Head of Secondary and I went on a learning circle; this was where we walked around the school, assessing quality and asking students in class what they liked and disliked about the class. I got the opportunity to see many of my peers teaching classes in subjects such as Maths and Science. Quality and maintaining a high standard was a crucial aspect of my next task as Principal. The Head of Secondary and the Heads of Primary and I were given the job of ranking our school on a scale of 1-4 for various quality standards. Specifically we looked at the relationships we have with parents and community partners.

The Head of Finance and I were given the task to propose new ideas that we believed would improve the canteen and library in the future. We also looked for student and teacher input and received a lot of helpful suggestions and ideas from the Year 11s and a couple of teachers; this feedback really helped strengthen our proposals.

Finally, my last job of the day was a Skype call with Mark Orrow-Whiting from Oxford University who is in charge of Global Campus and looks over many Nord Anglia schools, including ours. We had a long discussion about our school’s student leadership opportunities, pillar leaders, community partners and their interaction with KS3 and KS4.

This experience was absolutely amazing and I would love to see this event happen again next year and see just as many students as this year get involved!
