Kate Sharples is the newly appointed Head of International Primary Curriculum. Ms Sharples has been part of the Regents family for over four years, working in different year groups across the Primary School.
My initial love of learning was for science and I gained a Bachelor of Science in Genetics at Edinburgh University, in the UK. After a number of years working as a scientist and becoming involved in various initiatives with the charity Barnardos, I decided to change career paths and completed a Graduate Certificate of Education at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. I worked as a primary school teacher in the UK and Asia for 18 years.
During my time at Regents, I have successfully completed a range of courses provided by Nord Anglia University including the Middle Leadership Programme. More recently, I have gained a Master of Arts with Distinction in Education from the University of London.
I am very excited to be implementing the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) in our Primary School at Regents.
The IPC is a learning focused comprehensive curriculum that helps provide children with opportunities to explore engaging and international themes.
Our teachers will carefully select a range of contextually relevant units outlined in Route Plans which you will see in all the Primary class rooms.
At Regents, we also have the additional support from our highly experienced specialist teachers togther with our collaborations with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Juilliard School for the Performing Arts which can unlock our students imagination and transform their education.
Throughout the year, there will be many opportunities for parents and guardians to come to school and participate in the children’s learning.
One of the main reasons that IPC has become one of the most widely used primary curriculums in the world is its three-tiered approach that focuses upon subject, international and personal learning goals. Consequentially, children can develop the academic knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare them for secondary school and beyond whilst also developing the personal qualities and characteristics to help them flourish in our increasingly connected and dynamic world.
