My Journey to Becoming Deputy Head by Hannah Naowasuk

In the words of Maya Angelou “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

I am not entirely sure when I decided that I wanted to become a teacher but I do know that the decision was based on childhood experiences at school.

I think that this is the case for all of us. From a teacher who comforted me on my first day at my new school to those who turned learning things that could easily be mundane into something fun and interactive, like learning French verbs! Everyone will remember a teacher or teachers who stand out from the rest and these can be for good or bad reasons of course.

Early Years Teacher

In the early days of my teaching career, some 17 years ago, I was quite convinced that I only ever wanted to be a classroom teacher. I wanted to be ‘that’ teacher who everyone remembers because of the positive relationships that were built and the support they had received in becoming the best that they could be.



Since starting at Regents in 2008, I have been fortunate to grow professionally and take on new roles. Now, as Deputy Head of Primary, being part of the Senior Leadership Team means that I am able to work in a team where I can support and influence each teacher in becoming the best they can be and therefore having a positive impact on every child in Primary and not just a class of 24.
