ENGLISH
In English this week, the children will continue with the theme of 'The Snail and the Whale', written by Julia Donaldson. They will write a recount about their holiday adventures using the work they produced as part of their homework. The focus will be to include different punctuation marks and time connectives.
During Phonics lessons, the children will apply phonic knowledge and skills to decode and read words. They will read accurately by blending sounds in unfamiliar words identifying different graphemes and phonemes.
MATHEMATICS
In Mathematics, the children will continue their work on pictographs. Exploring how they traveled to their holiday destinations. They will investigate the results to find out which transport was the most or least popular and try to find the difference between the different modes of transport.
Time will be spent on practicing the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and number facts to 20.
TOPIC
The Personal Goal we will be focusing on this week is 'Cooperation'.
The children will be encouraged to work as part of a team during all activities to help them develop their cooperation skills.
'As Geographers' we will be finding out about the the seven continents and five oceans of the world. The children will make comparisons between the different locations and their features. Time will be spent using secondary sources like the Internet and an atlas to help the children research different locations.
This unit will continue to be explored through the eyes of the characters from 'The Snail and the Whale.'
