English
This week we will be continuing to read "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl. The focus in English next week will be on investigating how characters are presented with reference to the text. At the start of the week we will be using drama to interrogate the text by becoming the characters in the text. We will devise balanced arguments both in favour and against the closure of the chocolate factory. Students will then be learning how to use conjunctions in sentences to expand them and give more detail to make them more interesting. Alongside this we will be adding in detail to our writing through the use of similes and metaphors and beginning to use an increasing range of interesting vocabulary.
Maths
During our maths lessons this week we will be recapping our use of formal written methods for both addition and subtraction. We will practise our use of column addition with carrying and column subtraction with exchanging. From here we will apply our knowledge and skills of these two written methods to be able to answer one step word problems. At the end of the week we will further build on this to begin to answer two step word problems using the formal written methods.
Topic
This week we will be putting on our Scientists hats to start our learning on the Science of Chocolate. The focus will be on preparing simple investigations, predicting the outcomes of investigations and using evidence to draw conclusions. Some of the experiments we will be looking at initially will be whether chocolate is good or bad for you and also to establish why people eat chocolate. This information will then be compiled into Bar Graphs where we can analyse the chocolate eating habits of people these days and whether it is healthy or not.
