English
In English next week we will be exploring poetry based on the body. We will be looking at a range of poetic devices and discussing the words and phrases that poets use to create humour within their poems. From here we will be writing our own poems about the body and then performing them to our peers. In guided reading we are continuing to retrieve information and from non-fiction texts and identify the themes within these texts.
Maths
During our maths sessions this upcoming week we will be moving on from place value work and begin to use formal column methods for addition and subtraction of 4 digit numbers. During our mental and oral starters we will be exploring the use of mental methods for addition and subtraction. We will be working on helping the children to be able to chose when is the most appropriate time to use a written method and when they should select a mental approach instead.
Topic
As scientists we will be moving on from the eye and begin to explore the role of the ear. We will look at how the ear works and the main functions of the different parts of the ear. From here we will look into fair testing and develop our own hearing tests to ensure that all the children have fully functioning hearing!
