As we continue our topic on travel and tourism (‘The Holiday Show’), we will begin to look in English at tourism etiquette and nightmare travel scenarios! To do this, we will be writing, acting out and editing our own playscripts, learning about the different roles of ‘director’ and ‘playwright’, linking our knowledge of Shakespeare to more modern theatre work. We will be imitating a genre – playscripts – as we consider the different emphasis a text can have when interpreted in different ways. In order to understand how this process works, we will be working collaboratively to edit, shape and convert texts from passage to playscript.

In Maths we are going to focus upon checking, approximating and estimating. This will include rounding whole numbers to the nearest 10,000 and 100,000 using the children’s understanding of place value. The aim of the unit is to practise the rounding skills of whole and decimal numbers, to aid estimation in the context of real life problems.

In topic, the children will be looking at advantages and disadvantages of tourism. As internationally minded citizens, the children will imagine that they are in charge of a tourist resort. They will think about the responsibilities that this entails. We will also be investigating eco-tourism, exploring places in the developing world that benefit from this. Towards the end of the week, the focus will be on extreme weather events and how this affects tourism.
