Our Principal Writes...

29 November 2013

Dear Parents, as with most things in life the security of our school site is a matter of balance. It is of course hugely important that our campus security is robust enough to protect all of the students in our care. However at the same time we are also keen for parents to come in on a regular basis to support learning, enjoy the many exciting cultural and educational events and get involved in community activities.

We have been reviewing our procedures and systems to ensure that we can be satisfied that we have a system that is fit for purpose, and we have a draft document that we will be sharing with parent reps and refining before publication and distribution in advance of the start of next term.

There will be no radical changes but the new system is designed to ensure that we know who is on site and for what purpose. We have put time and effort into training the guards and the receptionists, helping them to improve their English and giving them greater confidence to interface with visitors from both inside and outside the school community and establish firmly what the visitors’ business is before allowing them access. It will take a little while to fully bed in but I would ask for your full support and forbearance as we introduce and fine tune the new procedures.

Central to the system are the photo ID cards. We have decided to upgrade the ID card system and we will be issuing a new set of cards after Christmas. These cards will be required for entry to the site and will be essential for those who are dropping off or picking up from school. Therefore parents will need these cards as will ayis and drivers if they are involved in the transporting of children to and from school across the age groups.

We need you to support us by submitting up to date information and photos of yourselves and your staff as well as registering any private vehicles that come to the school. We will be sending out a form for this purpose before the Christmas holidays. We will also take this opportunity to ask you to give us the details of any changes you have made to your contact information address, telephone number etc.

The primary reason for upgrading our security processes is to ensure the safety of the students at pick up and drop off and during the course of the day.

Christmas is coming and the school will be decorated accordingly over the weekend. I look forward to seeing you at the various Christmas events that will be taking place in school over the next couple of weeks.
