Shanghai Film Museum: A Collective 'Thumbs Up'

03 December 2013

Over 70 of our IB Film and GCSE Media Studies students visited the newly-opened Shanghai Film Museum. This modern and interactive museum celebrates the Chinese contribution to cinema and gave students the chance to improve their knowledge of local culture and history.

Among the many hands-on displays was a sound recording room where students could lend their vocals to a film soundtrack and a foley sound effects room where various props were used to create sound effects to a silent clip. There was also plenty of vintage film equipment on display.

In the afternoon, we moved on to the Peace Cinema IMAX in Peoples Square for a 3D screening of Alfonso Cuaron's GRAVITY. This innovative and technically accomplished film is one of the movies of the year and seeing it on the biggest screen possible helped its impact! Tying in nicely with the Media Studies exam topic of Action-Adventure films, we gave the film a collective group 'thumbs-up'!

Thanks to all the pupils and staff for making this an interesting and enjoyable day!
