Today we Remembered

11 November 2014

Every year on this date, we stop to remember those who died in the Great War of 1914-18 and all wars since.

Today marks the anniversary of Armistice Day, the day that the treaty was signed to end the First World War and we have been marking this important event across the school today.

Primary started the day with Ralph Gawthorpe from Year 6 sounding the Last Post and then children from Years 1-6 singing ‘A Song of Peace’ altogether.

In secondary, the whole school came together, along with all the visiting athletes currently here for the FOBISIA Games, for a special assembly with readings from teachers and students and Ralf again sounded the Last Post before the two minute silence was held.

In assemblies across the week, students in primary and secondary will be looking at the subject of World War 1 and remembering those who have sacrificed so much during war time across the years and given their lives for others.

The secondary assemblies are being performed by students, with a choir singing the war poem ‘Before Action’ set to music, a short play about what led to the war, a dramatization based on letters from the trenches set to music and a film created by a Year 9 student.
