Upcycle Challenge: 10 Ways to Reuse Your Old School Uniform!

04 November 2014

Miss Meehan has a challenge for you all!

  • Luna, a Year 4 student from the British International School Shanghai, Puxi, made her own water bottle bag from her old school uniform.

Luna and her water bottle pouch.

Idea #1: The Water Bottle Pouch

I was most impressed by the initiative and creativity shown by Luna, a student in Year 4, towards an upcycling project. Enthused by the possibilities of her mum’s new sewing machine, Luna decided that she could use the fabric from her old school uniform to make a great water bottle bag that would both look fantastic and be really useful. The end result is wonderful and something she is rightly very proud of.

Where the idea came from

I got the idea because I always had to hold my water bottle in my hand and I wanted to learn how to sew on my mom’s sewing machine. We had some old uniforms that we used to sew with. I learnt to sew patterns, how to turn, how to tie the string and to sew left side against right side.

Upcycle Challenge

Can we come up with 10 great ways to upcycle old BISS school uniform?

If you have an idea, give it a go and then share your upcycled product with your class and Miss Meehan. The best results will be showcased on our website and social media sites. I am sure you can be really creative!

Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.
