Are you an inspirational school leader looking for a senior leadership opportunity in a successful and expanding school? The British International School Shanghai, Puxi Campus is looking for a senior leader to take on the crucial role of managing and developing its IB Academy.
The IB Academy is our year 12 and year 13 programme, currently involving 80 students in each year group. All students follow the IB Diploma or Diploma courses programmes, and are highly successful. 25% of our students achieve 40+ point Diplomas, more than 4 times the global average, and we have high expectations of the whole cohort.
This Senior Leadership post provides significant autonomy and responsibility, as well as the opportunity to work as part of a strong leadership team. You would be responsible for all aspects of the Academy, including curriculum development, academic results, student welfare, university admissions, liaison with parents and the physical environment. Along with other senior staff you would be responsible for the promotion and marketing of the school, and for its reputation in the local and global community. You would lead a team of staff, including the IB coordinator, higher education advisors, and the CAS (creativity, action, service) coordinator, and you would be expected to ensure that Heads of teaching faculties and departments delivered high quality and effective courses to Academy students.
We welcome applications from exceptional professionals with the right blend of experience, creativity, organisation, passion and flair. Experience of working with students in this age group is essential, as is a strong academic teaching and management background. Experience of the IB programme is desirable, but may not be essential for an otherwise outstanding candidate.
As a qualified teacher and proven leader, you will be familiar with the UK curriculum and confident working with children and adults. You will be an excellent communicator, who gets on well with colleagues, students, and parents. You will use technology effectively and be happy to lead change. Amongst other things, you’ll be well organised, have a good sense of humour and have the kind of infectious enthusiasm that carries people along with you.
As an international school in a major city we have students and teachers with a wide range of backgrounds from around the world. You’ll be responsible for leading, managing and developing a programme that creates a culture of inspiration, enjoyment and success for every student. You will teach about 40% of a full timetable to secondary age students and set an example to others with your own practice in the classroom. You will liaise closely and proactively with parents, developing engagement strategies and helping them to feel reassured and positive about the experiences and development of their sons and daughters as they progress through the IB Academy.
In addition to being highly successful in its own right, the British International School Shanghai Puxi is a member of the Nord Anglia Education family of premium international schools. This means you’ll be joining an international team in which thoughts and ideas are shared around the globe as we strive to make our schools the very best in the world, and you’ll have the security and opportunities that come from being part of a high quality global organisation dedicated to education.
In return for your passion to deliver and develop quality educational provision you will enjoy a competitive salary (including a leadership allowance), accommodation provided by us, an annual flight allowance, places in the school for your children, a living allowance and international health insurance. You’ll have the opportunity to live in and work in one of the world’s largest and most vibrant cities. Here at the British International School Shanghai’s Puxi Campus we are a close knit team and are proud of our school and community. If you’d like to be a part of what we’re building, please get in touch: we’d love to hear from you.
