Year 3 Visit the Glass Museum

17 March 2014

Last Wednesday Year 3 set off on their trip to the Shanghai Museum of Glass.

Some pictures from the Shanghai Museum of Glass.

The journey whizzed by, with the help of a collaborative Rainbow Loom effort to help pass the time (if you have a child in primary, you'll undoubtedly know what this is!)  On arriving at the museum the first activity was to watch the glass blowing show. There were ooohs and ahhhhs from the children as the glass master demonstrated how to make a glass fish and a lamp.

The teachers got to have a go as well and did some glass blowing to the cheers of "bigger, bigger" from the children!

Next, it was off to the museum for one group where they learnt lots of interesting facts about glass such as how it has been used to cure disease and that 120,000 square meters of glass were used to make the facade of the Shanghai World Financial Centre. The children then moved upstairs and saw various glass objects being showcased. There was even a glass dress, hat and shoes!

The second group were busy painting glass cups at this point, choosing interesting and imaginative designs.

After a well-deserved lunch, the groups swapped over, before leaving the museum to return to school.

After all of the day's excitement, the children were exhausted but full of stories and great memories of the day!
