Crossing the Bridge!

26 June 2014

At my final assemblies this week I used the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff as a metaphor for the end of a school year.

The three goats were excited about the possibilities that lay across the bridge, but nervous about leaving behind the familiar. They had to use courage, determination and intelligence to overcome the obstacle of the scary troll in order to get to the other side. They had to conquer their fears and keep moving forward but all this was worth it in the end as they loved the new life that they discovered across the bridge.

For all the children, staff and parents we are coming to the end of a school year. This means moving on and adapting to changes and new situations. This could be a new class and teacher for next year, or it may be leaving BISS and Shanghai. While this can be a sad and anxious time, we also have to remember that endings lead to new beginnings and lots exciting new experiences lie ahead!

I would like to thank the children for their amazing hard work this year, the incredible BISS staff for their commitment and energy, and our wonderful parents for all their support and trust. For our leaving families we say goodbye and wish you well as you cross the bridge into new adventures. For returning families, have a wonderful summer break wherever you will be and whatever you will be doing.

Have a wonderful summer!

- Niki Meehan, Head of Primary
