Year One Learn About Business

04 June 2014

Local business woman Crystal, owner of Café Du Village, came in to meet our Year 1 students and explain all about running a coffee shop. Year 1 teacher Amy O’Connor explains what the children took from the visit.

  • Cafe du Village owner visits Year 1

Last week Year 1 were extremely lucky to have a special visitor: Crystal from Café Du Village. As part of our new topic 'What People Do', we are learning about different jobs and the important roles involved in these jobs. We have been practising different job roles in our own classrooms such as police men and women, travel agents and even doctors!

Crystal came into school to tell us all about her coffee shop, Café Du Village that she founded.

We were shown the special coffee that is brewed in the café and smelt the coffee beans that are grinded to make the coffee. Crystal also showed us some of the fantastic food that is served in the café and answered lots of questions asked by the children.

One important thing we wanted to know was how she was able to make the coffee, food and serve all the customers at once? Crystal explained to us that she had many other people, waitresses, chefs and baristas, to work for her. They all work together as a team and they run the business together.

Crystal also told us that she opened her own coffee shop due to her love of both coffee and serving others who also share her passion.

It was a fantastic experience for both the children and the teachers. The children were inspired by Crystal, many of them now wanting to open their own cafes when they are older!
