Our Year 7s exploring the school and getting to know each other on Orientation Day.
We designed the orientation days to ensure that new students and their parents would have a warm welcome without being too overwhelmed by the prospect of joining a new school. We also of course welcomed our new, yet pretty confident, Year 7s from primary to the secondary school so that they could find their way around and meet their form tutors. I hope you found the orientation days useful and the right start to the school and the school year.
The full school year starts with your child spending extended time with their form tutors who have an absolutely vital role here at BISS Puxi. Your children spent the first part of Monday getting to know each other and their tutors in form groups.
The emphasis is very much on personalised learning and it is important that if you have questions about the school or student life, that the form tutor is the person to speak to first. Form tutors have the chance in registration every day to build up a relationship and knowledge of your child’s interests, moods and needs and therefore can help calm worries and deal with concerns. Knowing and helping your child is an important part of the continued warm welcome we offer to all our students and of course the smooth running of the school. If you do not know who your child’s form tutor is they will be sending you a brief email of introduction in the next few days. We then also have our annual Meet and Greet event at school next Tuesday night where you can meet them and all of our teaching staff so that you can put a name to a face. The Meet and Greet starts from 6.30pm onwards on Tuesday 2 September.
It was good to see a nice turnout at the PTA Coffee Morning in school this week. The PTA do a great job in adding value to our community with events for both new and existing parents and families. This year we will continue to work hand in hand with the PTA and in the next few weeks we will have the second hand uniform sale which lets parents supplement the uniform bought (from our lovely new uniform shop in the parents hub in primary) with bits and pieces at second hand prices. This event will be held in The Gallery, one of our new facilities in the primary school on Tuesday 9 September. I will also send more information in the coming weeks to ask parents to be part of the secondary room parent network. If you are interested in taking a role in this important link between the school and the parental social network you can register your interest by emailing email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org .
Your children are coming to the end of their first full week in school and if they are in Years 7-10 the focus has been on getting to know their friends, teachers and form by mostly being taught in form groups. Our Year 11s, 12s and 13s hit the ground running by already being in option groups for the vital and busy year ahead. If you have a child in Year 7 to 10 they will have a new timetable issued on Monday morning as we have now had a week to analyse them in classes and gather the relevant testing information to ensure you child will start next week in the correct set and option choices.
I hope you as parents have found that the opening week has supported you and your child. If you have any comments positive or constructive about the week, please feel free to email me on email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org. Have a wonderful weekend.
