Year 2 and The Stories that People Tell

19 January 2015

Year Two have also had a very exciting start to their new Themed Learning unit: ‘The Stories That People Tell’! Year 2 Leader, Phoebe Davies explains what they did last week to launch the topic.

  • Year 2 students at BISS Puxi

Our Year 2 classrooms were totally transformed and the story based challenges really captured the students' imaginations.

On Monday each Year 2 classroom was transformed into a different story setting:

  • 2B became a treasure island
  • 2I disappeared and was replaced by a forest
  • 2P was transformed into a castle
  • 2S was sucked into space
  • 2U was suddenly under the sea
  • 2X was converted into a winter wonderland

In each classroom there were different activities for the children to get involved with and each class were able to visit three different story settings.

The children were really excited by the opportunity to explore the various story settings and it translated into a lot of enthusiasm to learn more about their new unit.

Here are some of their thoughts about the day:

“My favourite part was having to build a wall to keep the dragon out in the castle room.” Isaac, 2X

“The best bit of the day was the dragon attack in the castle room. We had to hide every time we heard the dragon!” Shiran, 2P

“It was fun in the under the sea room as we got to make our own mermaids!” Alva, 2S

“I liked the treasure island classroom because I got to dress up as a pirate and I made my own treasure map.” Alex, 2P

Throughout the week, parents also came into school to share a myth or legend from their own country. It was lovely for the children to hear stories from different cultures and we would like to say a big thank you to all of the parents for their help and continued support.
