As the member of staff in charge of managing the HE advice and application process you will be a key member of the IB Academy team, reporting to the Head of the IB Academy. Your principle role will be to manage student applications to universities in the UK, US and elsewhere, advising and working with students and liaising with colleagues and parents as appropriate. This will involve building links with universities and colleges around the world and this is likely to involve some overseas travel. You will also have a wider role in Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) within the school, to be agreed with the Head of the IB Academy and Head of Secondary. You will be helped by and will manage a locally hired HE assistant to ensure that quality of advice to students can be maintained at busy times of the year.
Educated to degree level, you will possess excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience with university applications will be an advantage, but the right person may also be able to develop the necessary experience whilst working. You will be an outstanding role model for the school and good at liaising with parents and students. The role will also involve building relationships with universities and admissions officers, so you’ll be good at developing such relationships.
As with all educators, the Head of HE Guidance must inspire confidence in students. The role requires excellent listening skills, and strong interpersonal skills. Applicants should be well-organised, and demonstrate the ability to work effectively both as part of a team or independently. The role requires a fluent English speaker, who is capable, for example, of taking information from teachers and using it to writing high quality references in English.
