PTA Corner: New Parent Programme Events in January

Happy New Year from the PTA and a big welcome to all the new parents who have joined our community.

Our New Parent Programme is full steam ahead for the New Year and below are some dates for your diary.

Wednesday 21 January – Tour

This month we have the pleasure of touring the China Art Museum in Pudong  with the wonderful Julie Chun.

The “Oriental Crown” was originally constructed as the China Pavilion for Expo 2010. When it (re)opened on 1 October 2012, the iconic structure was renamed China Art Museum and proclaimed the largest public museum of modern art in Asia. Absorbing the collection that had been housed at the Shanghai Art Museum in People’s Park, China Art Museum has acquired more works by living artists in efforts to fill the immense space of 689,000 square feet (64,000 square metres). Within the short span of a year and half, the museum has gone through “growing pains” in internal reconfiguration to raise its status as a world-class museum.

Julie Chun (MA, Art History) has been writing about and following the China Art Museum closely since its inauguration.  She will provide a walk-through of the vast space and highlight its prominent collections as well as its idiosyncrasies. She will bring to discussion how national identities are formed and master narratives propagated through institutional museums not only in China, but throughout the world.

We will also grab a quick bite of lunch after the tour, and be home by 3:30pm.

If you are interested in this tour please RSVP to Staci at sbhehe42@icloud.com">sbhehe42@icloud.com. Cost will be 150 RMB per person + the cost of the bus.

Friday 30 January - Tea
