The questions are extremely challenging and designed to really stretch these top mathematicians. In order to win the competition children will need to be able to apply their knowledge, solve logic and spatial problems, be able to explain their thinking in the investigation round, and then show great team work and ingenuity to create a winning construction.
This is the first time BISS Puxi has hosted this challenge, and we are very excited to have the honour of doing so. In total there will be 128 children from 31 International Schools competing at this event and it promises to be very exciting indeed.
There will be 8 students from BISS Puxi involved in the competition, forming our A and B teams. Emma Tang, Seonaid Jervis and Gabriel Treneman from Year 5 and Marcus O'Riordan, Joshua Wang, Ralph Gawthorpe, Jack Lee and Anneka Ho from Year 6 were selected as they have proven themselves to be great mathematicians. Personal recommendations from teachers, as well as performance in lunch time and after school ECAs were taken into account in the selection process.
The two day event runs on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 March. On Friday the Maths Trail and Individual Challenge will take place. Saturday will see the teams compete to find out which school has the best mathematical team.
These games will be conducted in the spirit of competition, sportsmanship, friendship and fun that embodies the FOBISIA movement and we are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone to BISS Puxi.
