Year 2 Help Protect the Rainforest and Visit the Art Museum

23 March 2015

Throughout the year, Year 2 raise money for a charity which helps protect parts of the rainforest, in particular in South America. Recently, to help raise money for this charity the children in Year 2 held a cake sale.

Throughout the week in Maths the children learnt about money: solving money problems, working out totals and giving change. They put what they had learnt into practise when they sold cakes and biscuits to each other and managed to raise an amazing 1,983.50RMB.

It was a busy week for Year 2 because in the same week, they visited the Shanghai Art Museum as part of their Themed Learning unit - The Stories That People Tell.

The children explored a range of artwork and studied the stories behind each piece. They thoroughly enjoyed discussing their views on the different pieces and learning about the different methods artists use. The children all came back exhausted but buzzing!

The Year Two Team would like to say a big thank you to all of the parents who helped bake cakes and who support the Year Two team with this charity work, as well as to the parent volunteers who came and helped on the visit to the Art Museum.
