Children taking part in various sports day events this week
Each of these Sports Days was a great success because they were carefully planned to ensure maximum engagement and involvement by everyone, regardless of skill level. Each child was able to get actively involved and have a lot of fun as they moved around different activity stations; taking part in diverse activities ranging from tough relay sprints to the sponge water challenge, or javelin throw to tug-of-war. It was great to see the determined faces of the serious Year 6 athletes as they focused on mastering their chosen activities but also a joy to see the tiny Nursery children frantically bouncing the balls on the parachute or trying to work out which direction to run in.
Our younger students worked in teams to complete their sporting tasks - taking turns and working together to earn the biggest number of points for their House team. Their activities challenged their running, jumping and throwing skills, but were designed in such a way as to be a lot of fun with tasks like the sponge relay, the obstacle course and the umbrella target task.
Our older students in Years 5 & 6 took part in specific track and field events, trying to better their own best throws, jumps and running times while also competing against their peers. Points were given for participation and ranking, and all contributed to the collective House Team totals. The standard of athleticism was quite outstanding and we clearly have many talented and determined young people. The track finals were closely fought and there were some nail biting finishes.
Our students shone, not just for their sporting excellence but importantly also for their team spirit - they cheered each other on, congratulated and consoled, and all had a fun time. Thanks to all the children for their positive attitudes and great participation and energy shown. Our parents were also fantastic, supporting with the tasty fruit for the children and enthusiastically encouraging the children at each event. And finally thanks to our PE staff and class teachers who organised and ran these great days so well!
All the children were winners and received medals or special stickers to acknowledge their participation and successes but we also had overall House Champions for each Sports Day. This year’s winning House Teams are:
- Years 1 & 2: Huang He (Yellow)
- Years 3 & 4: Jin Mao (Red)
- Years 5 & 6: Tian Shan (Green)
Please remember that we have a few days holiday and will be back at school next Monday. Have a great long weekend and enjoy, whether you are staying in Shanghai or travelling further afield.
